Gameweek 6 lands in three chunks: six matches on Saturday, a Sunday that finishes with Liverpool v Manchester City, and Coventry v Newcastle on its own on Monday night. The FPG deadline is Sat 10 Oct, 12:30 UK — the same moment Arsenal kick off against Leeds, so there is no sneaking a look at the early score before you commit.

FPG is simple: pick one Premier League team each round. If they win, you score points. The basic maths is +1 for a win, 0 for a draw and -1 for a loss, and the full rules are here if you want the detail.

Gameweek 6 is a normal round: no Double Points (where every score in the round is multiplied by two) and no Draw Means More (where a draw is worth +2 instead of 0). Plain scoring, one pick, no safety net.

Here is the full round in UK time:

  • Sat 10 Oct, 12:30 — Arsenal v Leeds
  • Sat 10 Oct, 15:00 — Chelsea v Bournemouth, Ipswich v Fulham, Sunderland v Brighton, Aston Villa v Brentford
  • Sat 10 Oct, 17:30 — Manchester United v Tottenham
  • Sun 11 Oct, 14:00 — Hull City v Everton, Crystal Palace v Nottingham Forest
  • Sun 11 Oct, 16:30 — Liverpool v Manchester City
  • Mon 12 Oct, 20:00 — Coventry v Newcastle

The Safe Pick

Arsenal at home to Leeds is the one that doubles as the deadline, and a home side in the first match of the weekend is the classic FPG banker: you want the +1 in the bank before the Sunday chaos starts. Chelsea at home to Bournemouth and Aston Villa at home to Brentford are the other two home picks I expect to be busy at 15:00.

Two things to check before you lock it in. First, the twice-per-team limit: each Premier League team can be picked a maximum of twice across the whole season, so if you have already spent both of your Arsenal picks, the app will tell you. Second, a banker everyone else takes is still only worth +1 — it keeps you level with the pack rather than moving you up it.

That matters more than usual right now. There are 118 players in the FPG table, the top two are on 14 points, and only three points separate first from third. Nine players are on 10 or more. In a bunch that tight, a safe +1 is a hold, not a gain.

The Differential

If you want to actually climb, the lever is the lonely pick: if you are the only player in the game who picks a team and they win, you get an extra +1 on top. It is the only way to score more than the person above you on the same result, and I have written about how to use a lonely pick to climb the table if you want the longer version.

The quiet corners of this round are where that lives. Hull City v Everton and Crystal Palace v Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon will get a fraction of the attention Liverpool v Manchester City does. Ipswich v Fulham at 15:00 is the kind of fixture where an away pick can go completely unclaimed. And Coventry v Newcastle on Monday night sits on its own after everything else is settled — picking it means sweating for 48 hours, which is part of the appeal if you are hunting a lonely pick.

The honest trade: a lonely pick that loses costs you -1 and the field walks past you. That is the deal, and it is the only deal on offer if you want to make up ground in one round.

The Verdict

Liverpool v Manchester City is the headline match of the round and, for FPG, the one I would leave alone. It feels like a coin flip to me, half the game will be looking at it, and a draw gives you nothing in a normal round — so you are taking the risk of a -1 for the chance of a +1 that plenty of others will have too.

My call is Arsenal at home at 12:30 if you are near the top and protecting a position, and an away side in one of the Sunday afternoon games if you are chasing. That is the whole safe pick versus differential question in one round, and where you sit in the table should decide it rather than which team you fancy. Nobody gets this right every week, me least of all.

FAQ

Who should I pick in Gameweek 6? If you are protecting a place near the top, a home side in Saturday's early or 15:00 kick-offs is the low-variance play. If you are chasing, take a differential from Sunday afternoon or Monday night and go for the lonely-pick bonus.

When is the FPG Gameweek 6 deadline? Sat 10 Oct, 12:30 UK — the same time Arsenal v Leeds kicks off. Miss it and a team is picked for you; it scores exactly as normal, and if that score comes out positive you lose a point.

Is Gameweek 6 a Double Points round? No. Gameweek 6 is a normal round, so no Double Points and no Draw Means More. Standard scoring all the way through.

How many people am I playing against? There are 118 players in the FPG table going into Gameweek 6, with the top two tied on 14 points.
