Gameweek 5 had a bit of everything: a 3-0 derby rout, a 5-3 shootout, and a goalless draw that quietly paid better than most wins. FPG is simple: pick one Premier League team each round. If they win, you score points. Round 5 was a Draw Means More round, which means a draw was worth +2 instead of 0 — and 17 of the 118 players cashed that in.

The top score was 3 points, and only four players got there. Across the field, 48 picks won, 17 drew and 53 lost. It was that kind of weekend.

The Picks That Paid Off

Everton were the joint most-picked team of the round — 15 players, 12.7% of the field — and they delivered, beating Ipswich 1-0 at home. Five players had gone the other way on that match, which mattered: in FPG you also score a head-to-head point, +1 when your team beats a team another player picked. That made the Everton pick worth 2 points.

The biggest return came from Brentford. Their 3-0 win over Chelsea was the only derby in Gameweek 5, and derbies score differently — +1 for a win, but -1 for a draw and -1 for a loss. Stack the win, the head-to-head point and the derby point together and Brentford was worth 3 points to its seven backers, the best return of the round. If you want the full breakdown, we've written up how derbies score in FPG.

Leeds were the smart quiet pick. Their 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace was worth nothing in a normal round, but in a Draw Means More round it paid +2 — the same as an Everton win, from a game with no goals in it. Eleven players had Leeds. The 1-1 between Fulham and Manchester United paid the same way.

Elsewhere: Liverpool won 1-0 at Bournemouth for their eight backers, Newcastle beat Hull City 2-1 for five, Coventry won 1-0 at Nottingham Forest for four, and Brighton's 3-0 over Arsenal rewarded the two who saw it coming.

Manchester City's 5-3 win over Sunderland is the odd one out. Six players picked City and it was worth just 1 point, because not a single player in the game picked Sunderland — no opponent picked means no head-to-head point. Sunderland were the only team in the round nobody backed.

One more number from the winners' column: 36 players lost a point to the dock, which is why a chunk of those winning picks finished a point below what they were worth. That is FPG's one penalty for missing the deadline — if you don't pick, a team is picked for you, it scores as normal, and if that score is positive you lose a point. The deadline was Fri 18 Sep, 20:00 UK.

The Bankers That Bombed

Nottingham Forest were picked by 15 players, exactly as many as Everton, and lost 1-0 at home to Coventry. Two teams tied as the round's most popular pick; one of them was its biggest hole.

Chelsea were worse. Ten players took them into the derby at Brentford and lost 3-0, and because a derby loss costs an extra point on top of the usual ones, they finished on -3 — the lowest score of the round.

Tottenham were next, nine players watching a 3-2 home defeat to Aston Villa. Arsenal's six backers went down 3-0 at Brighton. Hull City (five), Ipswich (five) and Bournemouth (three) completed the damage. In all, 53 of 118 picks ended the round in the red.

The Lonely Pick of the Week

One player, one team, one very good afternoon. Aston Villa were picked by exactly one person in the entire game, and they won 3-2 at Tottenham on Sat 19 Sep, 12:30 UK.

That is a lonely pick: back a team nobody else in the game has picked, and if they win you get +1 on top of everything else. With the win, the head-to-head point over nine Tottenham backers and the lonely bonus, it came to 3 points — the joint-top score of the round, from a team 117 other players left alone. This is the play we break down in what a lonely pick is and how to use it.

Table Movers

With five rounds gone, 118 players are in the table and the top two are locked together on 14 points, split only by goal difference. Third place sits on 11, so three points covers the podium — one good round away from a new leader.

The chasing pack is tight too: nine players are on 10 points or more. At the other end, the table stretches all the way down to -12, which is what a few rounds of backing the wrong favourite will do.

FAQ

What happened in FPG Gameweek 5? It was a Draw Means More round, where a draw scores +2. Everton and Nottingham Forest were both picked by 15 of the 118 players — Everton won, Forest lost. The top score was 3 points, reached by four players — three who backed Brentford and the one who took Aston Villa.

What is a Draw Means More round? A round where a draw is worth +2 instead of 0. Everything else scores as normal. In Gameweek 5 that turned a 0-0 between Leeds and Crystal Palace into one of the better returns of the round.

Why did some players lose a point in Gameweek 5? 36 players were docked a point. Miss the deadline and a team is picked for you, it scores as normal, and if that score comes out positive you lose a point. That is the only penalty attached to it.

How does the head-to-head point work? If your team beats a team another player picked, you get +1 on top of the win. It is also why Manchester City was worth only 1 point despite a 5-3 win — nobody had picked Sunderland. The full scoring rules are at fpg-app.com/rules.

Gameweek 6 is open now, with a deadline of Sat 10 Oct, 12:30 UK. Play FPG free at fpg-app.com — pick one team, see if you can do better than the 53 who got it wrong last time.
